Tantrum aka Dulono’s Sports Bar owed nearly $76,000 in rent when it was evicted this month.
Dulono's evicted from downtown Minneapolis spot after 67 years in business
Dulono's Sports Bar has been evicted from its building in downtown Minneapolis' Warehouse
District.
Marquee Properties, which owns the building at
118 Fourth St. N. in downtown Minneapolis, began eviction proceedings in July against Minneapolis-based 4 VG Inc., which runs
Dulono's, alleging the pizza joint was not up to date on its rent and utility payments, according to court filings. The parties reached a settlement the next month, but court documents allege that Dulono's did not pay off the nearly $76,000 it owed as of Dec. 1. Earlier this month, Hennepin County District Court Chief Judge Kerry Meyer ordered Dulono's to vacate the premises, according to court filings.
Dulono's Downtown Inc. had transferred the lease to 4 VG Inc. in December 2021, according to court filings.
So goes the legacy of the Twin Cities pizza mainstay, which was first established in 1957.
The Lake Street location, which opened in 1964, closed in 2017. The downtown Dulono's opened that same year. Locations in Woodbury and Mahtomedi have since opened and closed.
Dulono's ownership could not be reached for comment. Landlord Peter Hafiz, a nightclub mogul who runs Deja Vu, Dream Girls and The Gay '90s, also could not be reached.
The downtown Dulono's and the connected Tantrum @ Dulono's nightclub were hotspots for violent crime, especially around bar close. In November, three were injured during a shooting inside the bar that police called a "violent, chaotic" scene, according to a Minneapolis Police Department press release. In 2022, a 28-year-old died after being shot near the restaurant, Bring Me The News reports.
